It seems fitting as I sit here, listening to the raindrops falling, having crazy storms thundering around my head of a night time while tucked up in my little beach shack that writing a post on the weather is as good a time as any to write one.
They do say that the English love to talk about the weather - so here we go........
We live and plan weddings in the tropics - which means hot/humid/sticky and when it rains, it is BIG rain - as in the words of Forrest Gump, as this is sometimes how rainy season feels “One day it started raining, and it didn't quit for four months. We been through every kind of rain there is. Little bitty stingin' rain...and big ol' fat rain. Rain that flew in sideways. And sometimes rain even seemed to come straight up from underneath. Shoot, it even rained at night...”
However don't let a little bit of tropical rain ruin your destination wedding - let it work for you - there can be some stunning photos to be had - make sure you discuss with your wedding planner about the wet weather contingency plan - it is not always needed but if it is then at least make sure you are covered and prepared. Don't forget the island will be lush from the plants getting watered - the waterfalls will be flowing and indoor venues that get overlooked during hot season come into their own - we have restaurants with views - undercover - and the perfect place to watch a tropical storm while dining and dancing the night away, it is cooler - and can make for a stunning breeze and maybe the option to wear the suit rather then the shorts.
Look at what the island can offer you during our monsoon season - see it through different eyes - another perspective, we have some fantastic options - you just need to know where to look! That is where Weddings on Samui comes in! Trust me after 14 monsoons you learn the best place for keeping dry and still having fun!
If you still want your villa wedding then just make sure your back up plan is thouroughly discussed and all prices confirmed with regards to the marquees that you will need or the extra umbrellas that you may need to hire from the villa - these little extras can all add up if you haven't discussed it before hand nad you dont't want a last minute shock when you are also looking at a downpour!
At the end of the day - all that matters is that you are together and dealing with a little bit of rain - or in some cases a WHOLE heap of rain bother you - you will weather many storms over the years together ans as long as you are holding hands with the one you love everything will be alright.
